GSP Extension Bill Introduced
None of the proposed changes likely to affect AFI members.

Monday, September 25, 2006

A bill was introduced that would extend GSP for two years. The bill calls for changes to the program but none likely to impact AFI members. The only food provision would be to eliminate peanuts from Argentina from GSP eligibility.

This follows the recent introduction of two bills – one each in the House and Senate – that would extend GSP for two years with no changes.

The bill with the changes is more likely to be passed because it was introduced by Rep. Thomas, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

We will keep you informed of any further developments.
