Proposed Food Safety Bill - "Safe FEAST Act"
Summary Provided by Olsson Frank Weeda Terman Bode Matz PC

Friday, May 2, 2008

Below is the link to a summary of another proposed food safety bill. The strategy of many in the industry, led by the Grocery Manufacturers Association, is to attack the Dingell bill (a summary of which was sent to members last week) and offer this as an alternative. AFI has cautioned GMA and others that there are problems with this bill as well.

We heard today that Rep. Dingell plans more hearings on his proposal in June. That’s good news in that it makes it even less likely his bill will have any chance of passing this year. Nonetheless, it’s critical members provide specific feedback to us on both these proposals so we can prepare constructive comments. Including estimates on what any of the requirements would cost you would be especially helpful.

The best way to provide your input is via e-mail to info@afius.org. As always, the information we gather is compiled without sharing identification information about the companies providing it.
